Creepy Trees at Allegedly Haunted Mt. Misery Road, Long Island

It’s been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to write a post. I miss this.

Anyway, a friend of mine and I decided to take a trip to Mt. Misery Road to add the element of mystery to our photo walk. There are many stories surrounding Mt. Misery Road, an old dirt road in Huntington, Long Island. It’s not that I believe these stories so much as that visiting these sites (i.e. Eastern State Penitentiary) adds a feel of adventure. According to legend, there was an insane asylum on top of Mt. Misery (I think it’s the highest point in Long Island). A woman named Mary escaped and then burned down the asylum with its inmates still inside. We tried looking for the foundation of this site but had no luck.

There were no creepy feelings or voices or spirits floating around. The only bit of eeriness was attributed to the dead silence of the woods that the road cuts through. No birds. No rustling of squirrels. No deer. Nothing. As soon as we left the woods, suddenly it sounded like a damned aviary. Birds chirping. Squirrels rustling. But that was it. Hardly supernatural. The trees and foliage haven’t completely recovered from winter so, with the setting sun and barren branches, the scene lent itself to some spooky imagery as you’ll find below.
